Marine Insurance

The insurance cover offered by the main marine markets is very similar. Many markets have tended to adopt either the London market Institute Cargo Clauses ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’ or the cargo clauses of the American Institute of Marine Underwriters.

There are also specialty clauses dealing with certain types of cargo such as the Institute Frozen Food Clauses for reefer cargo or the Timber Trade Federation Clauses.

This class of business includes rejection cover, compliance and credit risks and war strikes riots and civil commotions risks.

A proper understanding of these clauses can only be achieved by many years of transit underwriting and claims adjusting practice.
